OCTOBER 13 - GENEROUS TOWARDS OTHERS

READ 2 Corinthians 8
We should follow Christ's example and be generous toward others.

INSIGHT
The grace of Jesus, who "though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor," serves as the ultimate model for our generosity. Our giving is a grateful response to the Gospel. It is an act of worship that mirrors Christ's self-emptying love, proving that our hearts are more invested in the kingdom of God than in the treasures of this world. This giving, born of grace, becomes a tangible testament to our faith and a powerful tool for ministry.

PRAYER
Praise God for supplying all your needs:

Love the Lord, all his faithful ones.
The Lord protects the loyal,
But fully repays the arrogant.
Be strong, and let your heart be courageous,
All you who put your hope in the Lord
(Proverbs 3:5-6).

But I have received everything in full, and I have an abundance. I am fully supplied,   having received from Epaphroditus what you provided — a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God. And my God will supply all your needs according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:18-19).

Pause for praise and thanksgiving, and pray this confession to the Lord as you seek to keep your life free from sin:
It was good for me to be afflicted
So that I could learn your statutes.
Instruction from your lips is better for me
Than thousands of gold and silver pieces
(Psalm 119:71-72).

Confess any sins that the Holy Spirit brings to your mind and pray this affirmation to the Lord:
Happy is a man who finds wisdom
And who acquires understanding,
For she is more profitable than silver,
And her revenue is better than gold.
She is more precious than jewels;
Nothing you desire can equal her
(Proverbs 3:13-15).

As you make your requests known to the Lord, include:
  • A willingness to yield to God's will
  • Missionaries in the Middle East
  • Your activities for the day

Offer this closing prayer to the Lord:
Now may the God of peace, who brought up from the dead our Lord Jesus — the great Shepherd of the sheep — through the blood of the everlasting covenant, equip you with everything good to do his will, working in us what is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen. (Hebrews 13:20-21).
