Who Killed Jesus? Aug 30 2026

What if the most important question we could ask about the crucifixion is not a historical one, but a deeply personal one? This message takes us on a journey through the events surrounding the death of Jesus, examining the roles of Satan, Judas, the religious leaders, the crowds, and the Roman authorities. One by one, we consider each candidate, and one by one, we discover that the answer runs deeper than any of them. Drawing from Isaiah 53, where the prophet declares that the God laid all our sins on Jesus, and from 1 Peter 2:24, which reminds us that Jesus bore our sins on the cross, we are brought to a stunning and humbling conclusion. It was not a particular group or a specific historical villain who is ultimately responsible. It is us. Our pride, our rebellion, our turning away from God sent Jesus to the cross. And yet the message does not leave us in guilt. It lifts us into wonder, because Jesus was not a victim. He laid down his life willingly, declaring in John 10 that no one took it from him. His love held him there. Understanding this changes everything about how we relate to sin, to Christ, and to one another.
